Trauma Therapy and Recovery

Heal from the past and reclaim your life.

Understanding Trauma

If you’ve experienced trauma, you may find yourself stuck between two worlds—the one that came before, and the one you’re trying to live in now. Memories, sensations, or emotions from the past can intrude unexpectedly, leaving you feeling unsafe, disconnected, or on alert even when there’s no immediate threat.

Trauma can arise from many experiences: accidents, violence, loss, abuse, or ongoing stress in relationships or environments that felt unsafe. It can show up as anxiety, depression, dissociation, or physical symptoms like fatigue or pain. However it manifests, trauma is not a sign of weakness—it’s your mind and body’s way of trying to protect you from further harm.

The path to healing begins when you can safely turn toward what happened, at a pace that feels manageable, and start to reestablish trust in yourself and in life.

How Therapy Can Help With Trauma

How Therapy Can Help With Trauma

Trauma therapy provides a structured, compassionate space to process what’s been overwhelming—at a pace that feels safe and sustainable. My work is grounded in Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), a leading evidence-based approach for treating trauma and PTSD. CPT helps you identify and work through the beliefs that keep you stuck in patterns of guilt, fear, or self-blame after trauma.

Together, we’ll examine the “stuck points” that shape how you see yourself, others, and the world in the aftermath of what happened. By gently challenging and reframing these beliefs, CPT helps your brain and body update the story you’ve been carrying—transforming painful memories into experiences you can hold without being defined by them.

In therapy, you’ll also learn practical skills to manage triggers and regulate your body’s stress response. We’ll combine this with insight-oriented work that supports meaning-making and long-term emotional integration.

Healing from trauma doesn’t mean forgetting or minimizing the past—it means reclaiming your right to live fully in the present. With structure, compassion, and evidence-based care, you can rebuild safety, trust, and a renewed sense of self.

Why Work With Me

I’ve been practicing as a therapist since 2002, with more than 23 years of experience helping clients heal from trauma, anxiety, depression, and complex emotional challenges. Over the years, I’ve supported individuals in both outpatient and residential settings as they worked to process experiences ranging from childhood abuse to sudden loss and relational trauma.

My approach is gentle, collaborative, and grounded in evidence-based care. I integrate trauma-informed modalities—including mindfulness, cognitive-behavioral strategies, and psychodynamic insight—with an emphasis on safety, trust, and pacing. Clients often describe our work as both deeply reflective and stabilizing: a process that makes room for pain while steadily building strength and self-compassion.

I believe that trauma recovery is not about erasing the past—it’s about finding a way to live with greater wholeness, meaning, and freedom.
